Taken on the same day as the other Horsetail picture, these plants were located on the other side of a U-Bend in the creek. The creek cuts against a sheer rock wall that only moss and some ferns can successfully grow on, so the canopy is much more open and the temperature warmer faster. In this picture you can see they are already releasing their pollen.
